We all know how karma works, so I’m a bit pissed off as i reckon I am owed some. On Saturday night I was lying in bed watching TV and I could here a lot of shouting going on outside which I thought nothing of as the area I live in isn’t the quietest. Anyway the shouting continued so I thought is go out and investigate. Our house faces south but the ones over the road face east so I couldn’t really see if anything was happening from my window.
I went outside and took a little walk round the corner of the street to see where the noise was coming from – as I looked over I seen the old man from the house opposite lying face down outside of his front door shouting “help me!” I ran over to see what had happened. The old man put his hand out for me to help him up. Last time he fell it took 3 of us to lift him so there was no way I could get him up on my own. I tried to speak to him but the bloke is as deaf as a doorknob, add that to the fact he’d had a right skinfull there was no way I was getting any sense out of him. From looking at him it looked like he’d used his nose to break the fall – it was in a right mess so I called for the ambulance. The paramedics turned up a few minutes later, got him cleaned up and into his house. They asked him if he wanted to go to hospital, he said no so the paramedics asked him to sign a piece of paper and they were on their way. Once they had left I Hung around for a few minutes just incase the old man needed anything.
He wanted to go to bed so I helped him stand up onto his zimmer frame so he could get on his way. He got up with the help of the frame and fell straight back over using his shoulder to break the fall this time around. I’m a big lad myself and there’s no way I could get him up. This fall did not warrant wasting more of the emergency services’ time do I was unsure what to do. Luckily he had one of those home care intercom things so I pressed the panic button and was connected to an operator. I explained the situation, was told to hang about and someone would be out shortly. Around half an hour later two female carers turned up and I left them to get on with it. I don’t live in the nicest area of Sunderland so god knows what would have happened if I hadn’t found him. Anyway the following morning I got up. Went to go in the shower and managed to break my toe in the process. The pain was unreal! Karma? My arse. I think I should put the lottery on this week.
